Community groups
Volunteer groups working for the town, the coast and the people in it.
Listed in alphabetical order.
Ayrshire Independent Living Network
Peer-led charity, funded by the three Ayrshire councils since 2005, giving free information and advice on Self-directed Support — the arrangement that lets people who need social care choose how it is provided — and running a payroll and budget service for people who employ their own personal assistants. From 28 October it runs a weekly Dementia Wellbeing Café at Largs Bowling Club on Wednesday afternoons, for people living with dementia, their families and carers, and is looking for volunteers for it. Office in Ardrossan; for the café, email befriending@ailn.org or call 07771 453192.
Cairnie's Quay Mooring Association
A volunteer-run association looking after Cairnie's Quay — the slipway, the quay itself and 28 moorings. As well as boat owners it supports wild swimmers, divers, paddleboarders and anglers, and runs beach clean-ups and social meet-ups.
Clyde Coast & Cumbraes Men's Shed
A men's shed for Skelmorlie, Largs, Fairlie, West Kilbride and the Cumbraes, at the Brisbane Centre on Bath Street: a workshop and a place to make and repair things, pursue a hobby, get practical help with a project, or just have company. A charity whose purpose is men's health and wellbeing. Phone, email cccmensshed@gmail.com, or message the Facebook page to ask when the shed is open.
Cycling Without Age Scotland Largs
Volunteer pilots take older and less mobile residents out on free trishaw rides along the promenade. The Largs chapter of Cycling Without Age Scotland, a registered charity. Phone or message the Facebook page to book a ride or to ask about volunteering as a pilot.
Kindness Krew
Volunteers who visit people who are lonely or isolated — for company, a hand with everyday tasks, help getting to grips with a phone or tablet, or a companion on a journey. A project of The Ayrshire Community Trust (TACT), North Ayrshire's volunteering charity, covering the North Coast including Largs. Anyone can ask for support for themselves, a relative or a friend, or sign up to volunteer — by phone, by email, or through the forms on their page.
Co-ordinator Michelle Trainer, michelle@tact.scot.
Largs Community Development Trust
Community development trust and charity running projects for the town, from the new pool steps at Vikingar and Largs Radio to Your Space, its resource and advice centre on Boyd Street with a drop-in for residents. Members get updates and a say in what it takes on.
Largs Food Bank and Larder
Emergency food for anyone in Largs, Fairlie, Skelmorlie or Cumbrae who needs it — no referral needed, just go in. Run by volunteers at Clark Memorial Church on Bath Street, open Thursdays 11.30am–4.30pm. Their Facebook page lists what they are short of if you would like to donate.
Out of hours, phone 07749 034747 or message their Facebook page.
Largs Food Hub
A members' food larder at Largs Library — a reduced-cost weekly top-up shop, not an emergency food bank. Members choose their own food once a week on a points system that depends on household size. Open to anyone living in Largs, Fairlie or Skelmorlie: join on your first visit with two forms of ID, one showing your address. Part of North Ayrshire Council's Fairer Food Network. Open Tuesdays 2.30–4.30pm and Fridays 10.30am–12.30pm.
Donations of food can be handed in at Largs Library. Email Largsfh@gmail.com.

Who have we missed?
If that's your logo above and you'd rather we didn't use it, just say and we'll take it off, no questions.
This list is put together by hand, so there'll be gaps. If we've missed you, or something's moved, closed or changed, let us know at hello@largs.scot — we'd be glad to hear.
