Privacy
What this site does and does not know about you.
The short version. This site does not track you. It sets no cookies, keeps no account, and does not sell or share anything about you. It counts how many people visit each page, without knowing who they are. If you email us, we keep the email for as long as it takes to deal with. That is very nearly the whole of it; the rest of this page says the same thing in more detail.

Who runs this site
largs.scot is run by Ian McColm, a Largs resident, as a volunteer. Under data protection law that makes him the “data controller” — the person responsible for how this site handles information. You can reach him at hello@largs.scot.
What happens when you visit a page
Your connection is handled by Cloudflare. Every website is served from somewhere; this one is served by Cloudflare. When your device asks for a page, Cloudflare sees your IP address and which page you asked for, as any website's host does. Cloudflare keeps connection logs for security under its own policy; we do not see them.
We count visits without identifying you. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people look at each page. It uses no cookies, builds no profile of you, and does not follow you to other websites. We see totals — “the roadworks page was viewed 140 times this week” — and nothing about any individual.
Nothing else is loaded from anywhere else. The typefaces, images and stylesheets all come from this site, so no request leaves your browser for another company while you read. The only exception is the maps.
Maps. The roadworks and aircraft pages show maps. The map images come from OpenStreetMap, a non-profit mapping project, so your device requests them from OpenStreetMap's servers, which see your IP address. No other page loads anything from a third party.
Cookies
None. This site sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. That is why there is no cookie banner.
When you email us
If you write to hello@, events@, corrections@ or letter@largs.scot, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you write. We use it to reply and to act on what you have said — adding an event, checking a correction. Email is handled by Fastmail, on servers in the European Union.
We keep correspondence for as long as it takes to deal with, and a little beyond in case there is a follow-up. Corrections are different: we keep a record of what was reported, what we checked and what changed, because that record is part of being accountable for what the site says. It does not name you unless you ask it to.
Whatever you send is used only for the reason you sent it. Your address will not be added to any list.
The Largs Letter
When the monthly email starts, you will be able to subscribe by giving your email address. We will use it for the Letter and nothing else. Every edition will carry an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address entirely. The list will not be shared with anyone. Until the Letter starts, there is no list.
Names in the council record
Council corner records what Largs Community Council has raised and what became of it, built from the approved minutes published by North Ayrshire Council. Those minutes are a public record and they name community councillors — people acting in a public role, in a public meeting, whose decisions are the point of the record. Members of the public who raise matters are not named. How the register is compiled, and how to report something wrong in it, is set out on the How this record works page.
Your rights
Data protection law gives you rights over information about you: to see what is held, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to how it is used. On this site the honest answer to “what do you hold about me” is usually “nothing” — but if you have emailed us, or subscribed to the Letter, write to hello@largs.scot and we will tell you what we have and delete it if you wish.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, or phone them on 0303 123 1113.
Copyright and reuse

The words and data are yours to reuse. Anything written or compiled here — the council register, the plain-English summaries, the bin rotation, these pages — may be copied, quoted and republished, including by community groups, the Community Council and the press, provided largs.scot is credited. No permission is needed and none has to be asked for. Much of it summarises public business from published records, and a record of what a public body decided is not something to keep to ourselves.
The photographs and artwork are not. Alison Swinburne's photographs, and the illustrations drawn for this site, are separate work and remain reserved. If you would like to use one, write to hello@largs.scot and ask — the answer is often yes.
Material from other sources keeps its own terms. Weather and tide figures come from Open-Meteo under CC BY 4.0; roadworks come from the Scottish Road Works Register; council papers and minutes are North Ayrshire Council's, and the typefaces are under the SIL Open Font Licence. Each is credited where it appears, and reusing it means following that licence rather than this one.
Changes to this page
If the site starts doing something new with information, this page will be updated before it does, and the date at the top will change. Nothing will be added quietly.
