Essential services
In an emergency, call 999. The GP practice, the police, fire and coastguard, the lifeboat, and NHS 24.
In the order you'd most likely need them.
Largs Medical Group
The town's GP practice, at the Brooksby centre. Open Monday to Friday, 8.30am–1pm and 2pm–5.30pm; closed at the weekend. When the practice is closed and it can't wait, call NHS 24 on 111.
Largs Police Station
Police Scotland's Largs office, now inside the Brooksby centre — the old Court Street station has closed. Call 101 for anything that isn't an emergency, 999 if it is; the public counter isn't always staffed, so phone before making a special journey.
Largs Fire Station
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service — a retained station with one appliance, crewed by on-call firefighters from the town. In an emergency call 999. For a free home fire safety visit, book through the SFRS website.
HM Coastguard — Largs Rescue Team
Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard for anyone in trouble on the shore, the rocks or the water. The volunteer rescue team covering Largs is on call around the clock; its station is at Keppenburn, Fairlie. There is no number to ring the team directly — 999 is the route, always.
Largs RNLI Lifeboat Station
The RNLI's inshore lifeboat, on the Firth of Clyde since 1964 and crewed by volunteers. In an emergency at sea call 999 and ask for the Coastguard, who send the lifeboat — never phone the station. The boathouse at Barrfields can be visited by arrangement.
NHS 24
When the GP practice is closed and it can't wait: 111, free, around the clock — they can arrange an urgent appointment or a home visit. Dental emergencies out of hours are 111 too. For an emergency, 999.
Who have we missed?
If that's your logo above and you'd rather we didn't use it, just say and we'll take it off, no questions.
This list is put together by hand, so there'll be gaps. If we've missed you, or something's moved, closed or changed, let us know at hello@largs.scot — we'd be glad to hear.
